June 2022 & 4th of July Activities!

We’re only a week away from Independence Day and “Willing to Serve” is the theme for our 2022 4th of July celebrations in Broadus! The Broadus Volunteer Fire Department is marking the 100th anniversary of their formation in Powder River County so please join us in celebrating a century of their service to our community.

Here’s what’s happening over the long weekend…

The co-ed softball tournament hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and Powder River Little League will have games scheduled throughout the weekend starting at 8am on Saturday, July 2nd at the Stanley Damm Field. Get your teams registered by 5pm on Friday, July 1st. The Home Run Derby, sponsored by Game One (Gillette), will take place after tournament play on Saturday.  Open sign up, $10 per person for men’s and women’s hitting events.  Cash prizes to the winners, so come show us your swing!  Spectators are always welcomed and concessions are available at the field for purchase from D’Z Foods.  Special thanks to our 2022 tournament prize sponsors: Grant’s Hardware, Denbury, Stockman Bank, Mills Auction Service, Yellowstone Bank & Range.

On Sunday morning, grab your lawn chair and head to Cottonwood Park at 9am for the Community Church Service hosted by Faith Bible Church, Broadus Assembly of God and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

The festivities begin early on Monday for Independence Day with the Freedom Run/Walk sponsored by SCDC and hosted by the Powder River Trails Club.  Meet at Cottonwood Park for the 5 mile run starting at 7am, or the 1 mile run starting at 8am.  Visit powderrivertrails.com to register in advance or to find out more details.  After the run, grab some breakfast at the Broadus Bumblebee Daycare Pancake Feed fundraiser!  Pancakes and topping buffet for $5 per person will be available from 8-10am in front of the daycare.

The traditional 4th of July parade, sponsored by the Chamber will circle Courthouse Square beginning at 11am. Line up starts at 10:30am at the high school.  We’re pleased to honor Lyman & Anne Amsden as 2022 parade Grand Marshals.  At 95 and 94 years old they have both been truly “willing to serve” throughout their lives.  Lyman not only served the Broadus community as mayor for over 25 years, but he also proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II.  As a teacher and administrator, Anne served our youth throughout her career and dedicated hours to community service on various local boards.  Join us in saluting their lifetime of service!

Immediately following the parade, the Broadus Volunteer Fire Department will begin their centennial celebrations in front of the fire hall.  Stop by and support two great local non-profits – a $10 per plate BBQ lunch will benefit the BVFD and a Dessert Auction will benefit our local Cancer Fund.  Bring the whole family and enjoy the Fireman’s Games and other festivities.  It’s going to be a wet, wild good time!

Check out the free Quilt Show at Faith Bible Church between 11-3pm hosted by the Stitch & Chatter Quilt Club.  Then, grab your partner and hit up the Cornhole Tournament action at 3pm on the courthouse lawn.  Hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, open registration begins at 3pm for $10 per player.  Cash prize and multiple brackets so as long as the bags are flying, come sign up for some fun!

We’ll round out our weekend of celebrations on Monday night with the fireworks show at 9:30pm courtesy of Red’s Fireworks, executed by Kurt Copps, Zach Worman and the Broadus Volunteer Fire Department!  Enjoy the show on B-Hill thanks to our fireworks sponsors – Chamber of Commerce, Olivarez Honey Bees, Powder River Diesel, BDJ Construction, Wenzel Enterprises, and Broadus Boot & Tack.

It’s going to be a great weekend!
