June 2023 Newsletter

"Land That I Love" is the 2023 theme for 4th of July in Broadus, MT as we celebrate our rural community, agricultural lifestyle and our stewardship of this beautiful country!

Here’s what’s happening this year…

The festivities begin early on Tuesday for Independence Day with the Freedom Run/Walk sponsored by SCDC and hosted by the Powder River Trails Club.  Exciting changes this year with the addition of a 3 mile run/walk! Meet at Cottonwood Park for the 5 mile run starting at 7am, the new 3 mile run starting at 7:30am or the 1 mile run starting at 8am.  Visit powderrivertrails.com to register in advance, view maps or to find out more details.

After the run, grab some breakfast at the Broadus Bumblebee Daycare Pancake Feed fundraiser!  Pancakes and topping buffet for $5 per person will be available from 8-10:30am in front of the daycare.

Kara Lambert is organizing a benefit on behalf of the local Cancer Fund and will be hosting both a live and silent Dessert Auction this year.  Please drop any baked good donations off before the parade on the morning of the 4th at the Senior Center between 8:30-10:30am.  Silent auction bids will be taken at the Senior Center, concluding at 1:30pm.  The live auction will then begin under the tent in front of the Big Sky at 1:30pm.

The traditional 4th of July parade, sponsored by the Chamber will circle Courthouse Square beginning at 10:30am. In celebration of our “Land That I Love” theme, we hope to have a big turnout of agricultural entries.  Tractors, riders, livestock, and farm equipment are all welcome!  No pre-registration needed, just show up for line up at 10am in front of the high school.  We’re pleased to honor Doug Gardner as Grand Marshal of our 2023 parade. Doug operates the Gardner Ranch in Hammond founded by his family over 100 years ago.  A 5thgeneration of Gardners continue to enjoy the ranching values and lifestyle alive in our rural communities. Doug has been an enthusiastic volunteer and board member for several organizations over the years, an active steward of our land and wildlife resources, and a true “good neighbor” always willing to lend a hand and a smile when needed. Thank you, Doug, for a lifetime of service to this community and the land that we all love and call home.

Starting at noon, the Broadus Volunteer Fire Department will begin their celebrations in front of the fire hall.  Stop by and support the BVFD at their second annual BBQ Lunch Fundraiser.  Cost is $10 for adults and $5 per youth.  Bring the whole family and enjoy watching the Fireman’s Games, play in the cornhole tournament and don’t forget your raffle ticket for the Pit Boss Ultimate Gas Griddle in support of the BVFD, with the winner drawn at the event! The Art & Soul Club is sponsoring a kid’s Patriotic Art Contest and their artwork will be on display at the firehall during the BBQ.  Contact Jan Stevens at 406-784-2469 for more information on the art contest.

During the afternoon lull, check out the free Quilt Show at Faith Bible Church between 11-3pm hosted by the Stitch & Chatter Quilt Club.  Anyone is welcome to display a quilt and may contact Pat Ridenour for details.

We’ll round out our celebrations on Tuesday night with the fireworks show on B-Hill at 9:30pm executed by Kurt Copps, Zach Worman and the Broadus Volunteer Fire Department!  Enjoy the show thanks to our fireworks sponsors – Platinum Sponsors: Chamber of Commerce, Olivarez Honey Bees, WW Drilling, Stockman Bank, Range and Red’s Fireworks!  Additional sponsors: Askin Construction, Denbury, Huckins Ranch, Dale Copeland, Sagebrush Inn & Suites and D’Z Foods!

We hope you’ll join us for this community celebration!
