June 2020 Newsletter & 4th of July Celebrations

We hope you’re getting excited for the upcoming 4th of July festivities in Broadus.  Please see the attached poster of our planned events and join the Powder River Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture in “Celebrating Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness” this Independence Day!  This theme was selected as a reminder of all that Americans have to be thankful for, even in the midst of this tumultuous and politically charged time.

Check out the roster of activities planned for the weekend…

The celebration will begin early on Saturday the 4th with the Freedom Run/Walk hosted by the Powder River Trails Club.  Meet at Cottonwood Park for the 5 mile run starting at 7am.  Visit powderrivertrails.com to register in advance for $5 off the race day registration/t-shirt fees.  To encourage participation, the 1 mile walk/run is now free, although donations are gladly accepted and registration applies if you wish to include a t-shirt.

The traditional parade, sponsored by the Chamber, will circle Courthouse Square beginning at 10am.  Floats, animals, classic cars, farm equipment – we want it all!  Line up starts at 9am at the high school.  In support of the frontline healthcare workers within our country and community, we are pleased to announce that Randy Sullivan is our 2020 Parade Grand Marshal! Starting in 1969, Randy was Powder River County’s first Public Health Nurse and spent over 30 years caring for our local children and elderly.  Take the opportunity to help us honor this beloved lady with a big wave on the 4th of July!

The annual co-ed softball tournament hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and Powder River Little League will have games scheduled throughout the weekend.  Get your sign-up sheet at a local business, online at PRChamberofComm.com or by emailing us at powderriverchamber@gmail.com.  Register for $20 per player as an individual, couple, group or full team by 5pm on Friday, July 3rd!  VFW Post 1595 is planning on running a beer booth fundraiser, so grab your mitts and come support these great organizations with some softball action!  Spectators welcome.

The evening will finish out with a block party downtown including the Chamber cornhole tournament and a street dance with Way Out West sponsored by the Big Sky and Montana Bars.  Cornhole registration starts at 6:30pm for $10 per team with play starting at 7pm.  Dance, eat/drink and enjoy the evening activities until the fireworks show at 9:30pm, executed by Phil Desatoff and the Broadus Volunteer Fire Department!

It’s going to be a great weekend!
